Amy's grandfather had many wise sayings when she was little; but after his death in a tornado, Amy and her family must move in with their grandmother in a tiny farm town on the edge of nowhere. While adjusting to her new life, Amy meets Maria, a girl her own age with no mother and an abusive alcoholic father. Amy and Maria become fast friends until the next spring, when a severe storm takes Maria away. As the winds of change continue to reshape her world, Amy learns that perhaps forgiveness can be given to anyone.
