  • The Little Prince

    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Katherine Woods

Hardcover (Ancient Wisdom Publications, Feb. 21, 2018)
The story is philosophical and includes social criticism of the adult world. It was written during a period when Saint-ExupĂ©ry fled to North America subsequent to the Fall of France during the Second World War, witnessed first hand by the author and captured in his memoir Flight to Arras. The adult fable, according to one review, is actually "...an allegory of Saint-ExupĂ©ry's own life—his search for childhood certainties and interior peace, his mysticism, his belief in human courage and brotherhood, and his deep love for his wife Consuelo but also an allusion to the tortured nature of their relationship." Though ostensibly styled as a children's book, The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature. For example, Saint-ExupĂ©ry tells of a fox meeting the young prince during his travels on Earth. The story's essence is contained in the fox saying that "One sees clearly only with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eye." Other key morals articulated by the fox are: "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed," and "It is the time you have lost for your rose that makes your rose so important." The fox's messages are arguably the book's most famous quotations because they deal with human relationships.

  • The Little Prince

    Antoine De Saint-exupery, Richard Howard

    Hardcover (Everyman's Library, Sept. 1, 2020)
A beautiful hardcover edition of one of the bestselling classic children's stories in the world--long cherished by children and adults alike.Written during World War II, The Little Prince tells of the friendship between the narrator, an aviator stranded in the Sahara desert, and a mysterious boy he encounters there. Ruler of a tiny asteroid of which he is the only inhabitant, the Little Prince chats disarmingly about his curious adventures in space and since arriving on earth; of his distant home; and of his love for a beautiful and capricious rose, to whom he longs to return. A moving and deceptively simple tale, it was described by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry as a children's story for adults, and it works on several levels as an allegory of his own life and of the human condition. Children love it for its deadpan fantasy, for its sense of baffled amusement at the grown-up world, and for the author's whimsical watercolour illustrations, which are an integral part of the book.

Antoine De Saint Exupéry, Murat Ukray, Katherine Woods

    eBook (E-Kitap Projesi & Cheapest Books, Aug. 29, 2018)
The Little Prince [Le Petit Prince], is a novella and the most famous work of the French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry (1900–1944). The novella is both the most-read and most-translated book in the French language, and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. After the outbreak of the Second World War Saint-ExupĂ©ry became exiled in North America. In the midst of personal upheavals and failing health, he produced almost half of the writings for which he would be remembered, including a tender tale of loneliness, friendship, love and loss, in the form of a young prince fallen to Earth. An earlier memoir by the author had recounted his aviation experiences in the Sahara Desert, and he is thought to have drawn on those same experiences in The Little Prince. Since its first publication in the United States, the novella has been adapted to numerous art forms and media, including audio recordings, radio plays, live stage, film screen, television, ballet, and operatic works. The Little Prince is a poetic tale, with watercolour illustrations by the author, in which a pilot stranded in the desert meets a young prince fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid. The story is philosophical and includes social criticism, remarking on the strangeness of the adult world. It was written during a period when Saint-ExupĂ©ry fled to North America subsequent to the Fall of France during the Second World War, witnessed first hand by the author and captured in his memoir Flight to Arras. The adult fable, according to one review, is actually "...an allegory of Saint-ExupĂ©ry's own life--his search for childhood certainties and interior peace, his mysticism, his belief in human courage and brotherhood.... but also an allusion to the tortured nature of their relationship." Though ostensibly styled as a children's book, The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature. For example, Saint-ExupĂ©ry tells of a fox meeting the young prince during his travels on Earth. The story's essence is contained in the lines uttered by the fox to the little prince: On ne voit bien qu'avec le cƓur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux. ("One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eyes.") Other key thematic messages are articulated by the fox, such as: Tu deviens responsable pour toujours de ce que tu as apprivoisĂ©. ("You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.") and C'est le temps que tu as perdu pour ta rose qui fait ta rose si importante. ("It is the time you have lost for your rose that makes your rose so important.") The fox's messages are arguably the book's most famous quotations because they deal with human relationships.ABOUT AUTHOR:Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry, officially Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint ExupĂ©ry (29 June 1900 – 31 July 1944) was a French aristocrat, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator. eBook (Om Books International, Jan. 1, 2017)
I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams...A young aviator crashes his plane in the middle of the Sahara Desert. In the isolation of the blistering sand dunes, he meets a strange little boy - the little prince. Over the next ten days, as the aviator tries to fix his plane on a fast depleting store of food and water, he also gradually learns the little prince’s extraordinary story. The little prince talks of his own tiny planet, his beloved rose, the serious threat of baobabs, and of his travels to different planets. As the sad experiences of the little prince’s life are unfurled, so grows the affection for him in the aviator’s heart.Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s classic text has enthralled its readers, adults and children alike, over decades. The story is reflective of notions of loyalty, friendship, love and hope, easy but intense. The little prince’s simplicity throws the futility of endless human desires into a sharp relief, making it as profound as it is poetic.
