This delightful story highlights some of the common traits and challenges for those with autism as it delivers a nurturing message about love, support, friendship, and acceptance. Children will enjoy a shape/definition matching game as well as finding the hidden butterfly character on every page while they learn about Baby Butterfly's journey from inside his little cocoon, through his brave flight through the rainbow of challenges, to a happy life where he is embraced and accepted into the community of butterflies. One in 68 children live and often struggle with ASD. It's likely that you either have a child on the autism spectrum or know someone who does. This book is written for: children (preschool, kindergarten, first grade through third grade), families with children on the autism spectrum, teachers, special needs and special education teachers, libraries, pediatrician offices, counselors, educators, and anyone who would like to spread autism awareness and acceptance. *This book uses the image of a rainbow because the rainbow is a spectrum of colors. It's difficult to explain to children what "spectrum" means and the rainbow is an easily identified symbol to use as a tool to illustrate how autism can affect every child with it differently/to different degrees in various areas, yet they experience challenges in the same areas. Pointing to a shade of color on the rainbow is to say that both colors are on the rainbow (in the spectrum) but fall on different areas within the spectrum. This book does not imply that any color on the rainbow is better than another NOR does it imply that any child is better than the other. There are some who have told parents that their child must not have autism because the child was "nothing like" another child they knew/taught who had autism. For example, a child with autism may experience communication challenges differently than another child with autism. There is a saying, "to know one child with autism is to know one child with autism." This book seeks to spread acceptance of every child and embrace and value them as they are.Used In Classrooms- Teacher Approved!Teachers have used this book to teach their students about autism. Stimming and other terms are introduced through a shape-matching game. This book blends fiction and facts so that readers can better understand the reasons behind the behaviors resulting in a more positive, accepting, and inclusive environment.
