  • Simon Says: Seasons

    Gilles Tibo

Hardcover (Tundra Books, Oct. 11, 2006)
Meet Simon, a little boy with big dreams. His imagination leads him to all kinds of wonderful adventures. With the help of his friend, Marlene, and with his own special spirit, Simon makes each season a memorable one.Simon welcomes spring β€” As the snow begins to melt, Simon decides he will hurry spring’s arrival. When his drum fails to call it forth, he tries fantastic but charmingly imaginative ways to pull flowers from the earth, tempt birds to return, and encourage bears to awaken β€” only to discover that spring will come in its own time, despite what we try to do to make it come any sooner.Simon in summer β€” Simon loves summer so much that he never wants it to end. When he sees the first signs of fall, he seeks advice from a heron and a cow, who tell him how to make summer last. Simon tries by making the frogs sing, pleasing the butterflies with paper flowers, and keeping the sun high in the sky.Simon and the wind β€” Simon tries to use the wind to fly. As he blows bubbles into the breeze, he thinks he can make one large enough to carry him. His friend Marlene brings him a cardboard box, and Simon asks the birds to carry it like a plane across the sky. Finally, Simon learns he cannot fly, but discovers a game he and his friends can play with the wind.Simon and the snowflakes β€” Simon is curious. He wants to know how many snowflakes fall in a snowstorm, but they come down too fast to count. When he learns that there are as many snowflakes as stars in the sky, he tries to count them too, but they race across the night sky. Simon decides to visit his friends in the forest and finds something much better to count there.

  • Simon Says Share

    Teresa Butler, Mike Motz

Paperback (Phylira, LLC, Nov. 1, 2008)
Simon Says Share is a children's book about sharing. Simon is a 7 year old boy living on a military base with his mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather and twin sister and brother. The family talks about sharing and embracing the changes Simon will experience with his younger sister and brother. The book is full color with 4 pages for children to color. Book includes a music CD with the song Share, performed by Ms. Tyra Swain and a book mark. Simon Says Share is the first of a series of books that will talk about mannerisms, sharing and the courtesies we should use everyday, giving the reasons why we use them. It will help to create a continuous dialog between parent and child, teacher and child and, most importantly, child and child. Future titles, including Simon Says Thank You and Simon Says Please will explain more about why these mannerisms are necessary and how they have a positive effect on our lives. The book's aim is to teach children to be courteous and respectful of others around them, says Teresa, author and creator of the Simon Says series. This book is particularly valuable for small children, preschoolers and kindergartners, who will quickly absorb what is being taught. It might even reinforce manners among some adults. Proper manners and courtesy are how we prosper in life, so why not teach our children how to prosper while they are young? Simon Says Share and future books in the series will give adults the key to open a dialog with the children they read it to. The illustrations are eye-catching with vibrant colors, and the book is filled with characters that children can easily relate to.
