  • Great Illustrated Classics PETER PAN

    J.M. Barrie, Joshua E. Hanft

Hardcover (Publishers and Waldman Publishing Corp., July 6, 1995)
In Peter Pan,one of the most beloved fantasy stories ever written, children learn to fly, mermaids frolic, and little lost boys find their home at last. All sorts of adventures can be had on the wonderful island of Neverland, and Peter Pan is there to lead the boys and the newest arrivals, pretty Wendy and her two brothers. Everyone looks up to Peter, the bravest smartest, strongest boy there is. And Peter wants to stay a boy forever, befriending Indians, challenging wild animals, and battling the evil pirates led by the ferocious Captain Hook. Join Peter, the lost boys, and Wendy on their incredible adventures. A classic story about a young boy that never wanted to grow up. Peter Pan was first produced in the London theater on December 27, 1904 and was an instant success. The book appeared in 1911 under the title Peter and Wendy (later called Peter Pan and Wendy) . Although this author (Barrie ) became famous for Peter Pan, his most skillfully written play was Dear Brutus, which was written in 1917. It contained elements of both tragedy and comedy. It also resembled Peter Pan in its blend of reality and make-believe. Peter Pan is Barrie's best known creative work by far. Barrie's marriage was unsuccessful ---a fact that some observers laid to his failure to mature emotionally. Perhaps, like Peter Pan , the author never wanted to grow up!

    Sir Walter Scott

eBook (Diamond Pocket Books, July 19, 2017)
'Ivanhoe' is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott based on the theme of the Saxon-Norman conflict in England during 12th century. The Normans conquered England in the 11th century by defeating the Saxons. Though King Richard was a Norman but he had the required values of leadership and justice. The key figure, Wilfred of Ivanhoe is a Saxon who chose to enter the service of Richard, learnt all the arts of chivalry and went off to the Crusades. He, therefore, represents the best of both cultures and is a model for the future unity of England. The original flavour of this classic has been carefully retained in this abridged version.
