The purpose of this book is to captivate young readers and educate them about the Day of the Dead celebration. The text is written at a basic level to explain the photos and to encourage students of all ages to appreciate the meaning of this special holiday. We visited Oaxaca, Mexico in the fall of 2009 with the purpose of photographing and experiencing this important holiday. This book shows the beauty and depth of the traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead. Photographer Diane Cutler and Fair World Gallery owner Christine McNunn have teamed up to create a book that utilizes photographs to help explain the Day of the Dead holiday to children. The photographs were taken last fall on a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated in many Latin American countries on the last few Days of October and early November. The holiday celebrates the circle of life by honoring those who have died. The belief is that those who have died will return from the afterlife if they are enticed with their favorite foods, drinks, friends and family members. Preparing the altar, visits to the cemetery, parades and family gatherings are common events for the celebrations
