    S. Swallow

Hardcover (Price Stern Sloan Pub, Oct. 15, 1974)
Beginner's World is a series of ten picture information books that make up the simplest kind of encyclopedia for very young readers. The books cover a comprehensive range of young children's interests. Most of the pages of each book consist of a large main picture packed with details to explore, and several smaller supplementary pictures. The main text has a controlled vocabulary that will be easily read by most young children. The text under the smaller pictures is slightly more advanced, so that the books appeal to children with a wide range of reading abilities, and are also interesting and informative as picture books alone. A detailed index permits older children to use the books for reference. The last few pages provide a simple illustrated appendix for expanding the child's knowledge of special aspects of each topic.
