A Horse Named Clop is a tale set in the early part of the twentieth century at a time when mechanisation saw the horse being replaced by Cars and Lorries. The narrative follows the fortunes of a shire horse, from the time he's made redundant, to his retirement. Luck and good fortune sees him cross paths with a young disabled girl and her parents, whilst he is at market waiting to be auctioned off. As the couple stand admiring the horse, they notice a reaction in their child's behaviour when the inquisitive horse sniffs at the yound girls clothing. THe couple decide to put in a bid for the animal in the hope that their meagre resources will allow them to purchase the horse, their idea being the horse will help with the chores on a small holding they have just purchased. Luck sees the horse saved from being sent for slaughter along with his stable mates by an auctioneer who prematurely brings the bidding for him to a close owing to his love for these magnificent animals and his attempt to save at least one from an early demise. The story touches on a bond that can form between humans and animals and the therapeutic part animals can play in assisting humans with a disability.
