Spanish artist Pablo Picasso was the co-inventor of Cubism with Georges Braque. He created paintings, drawings, etchings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, and costume and set designs, and was constantly experimenting with different techniques, styles, materials, and themes. This biography highlights Picasso's childhood, education, exhibitions, travels to France and Italy, family life, experimentation with Surrealism, re-creations of classical works in his own style, use of color, and support of the Picasso Museum, as well as the Blue Period, the Rose Period, and the influence of the Spanish Civil War on his work. Sidebars, a glossary, an index, and a phonetics section accompany easy-to-read text and full-color reproductions of Picasso's artwork, including Picador, Science and Charity, Man with a Guitar, Guernica, and Garcon à la Pipe.
