Books in Oxford reading tree: Stage 4 series

The Stage 1 Biff, Chip and Kipper Stories, written by Roderick Hunt and illustrated by Alex Brychta, provide both wordless stories and a rich story context to help develop language comprehension and decoding skills with simple first words and sentences.Wordless Stories A and Wordless Stories B introduce the characters and children learn that the pictures tell a story, where a story begins and how to turn the pages. First Words and More First Words introduce children to simple words and the characters' names.Each pack of 6 includes a Group/Guided Reading Notes Booklet with a Vocabulary Chart listing high frequency tricky words and a Curriculum Coverage Chart for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Each story has individual notes and suggested activities for Group and Independent Reading,Speaking, listening and drama and Writing, with each section showing the relevant objectives covered. Decoding and Language Comprehension opportunities are highlighted throughout.

First Words is a set of six Stage 1 titles designed to fill a perceived gap between the wordless Stage 1 books and Stage 2. They introduce the Stage 1 key words (the characters' names; `a', `and' and `the') in a set of motivating child-centred stores: Where does the mysterious spaceman comefrom? Why is Floppy out of favour? What happens to Mum and Dad's bed? Look in on the `Biff and Chip Show'; join the family having fun at the beach; and find out what's cooking.These Stage 1 titles will be accompanied by Big Books and Extended Stories.

Biff, Chip and Kipper Stories: Decode and Develop More A are exciting new titles in the Oxford Reading Tree series. The stories continue to provide storylines full of humour and drama, with familiar settings and all your favourite characters with some new friends for Biff, Chip and Kipper. They also support children's transition from fully decodable readers, such as Floppy's Phonics, to a richer, wider reading experience with high-interest vocabulary.
