Grandfather Frog's big goggly eyes flew open, and he was just about to make a frightened plunge into the Smiling Pool when he saw Jerry. "Have a nice nap?" inquired Jerry, with a broad grin. "I wasn't asleep!" protested Grandfather Frog indignantly. "I was just thinking." Elsewhere, Billy Mink and Little Joe Otter were planning to pull a perfectly rotten trick. "What can we do?" said Little Joe Otter . "I've thought of a plan," replied Billy. "Do you happen to know where we can find Longlegs the Blue Heron?" "Yes," said Little Joe. "I saw him fishing not five minutes ago." Then Billy told Little Joe his plan, and laughing and giggling, the two little scamps hurried off to find Longlegs the Blue Heron. • The adventures of Paddy the beaver

    Thornton W Burgess

    Hardcover (McClelland & Stewart, Jan. 1, 1943)
This book is the fifteenth in Thornton Burgess’s Bed-Time Storybook series, preceded by The Adventures of Old Man Coyote, and followed by The Adventures of Poor Mrs. Quack and many others. The Adventures of Paddy the Beaver was originally published in 1917 by Little, Brown. Paddy the Beaver causes quite a bit of curiosity among the little folk of the Green Forest when he decides to build a dam. Everyone is puzzled as he cuts trees and sticks and drags them to the Laughing Brook. What he is building looks nothing like the smooth, grassy dam Farmer Brown built. Will it even work? Then he started building a house, only he doesn’t leave any room at all in it for a bedroom. Could Paddy the Beaver really not know how to build a house? And what happens when Old Man Coyote finds out how slow Paddy is on the dry land?
