This is an historical text book or reference book for middle school/junior high students, covering the years in America from 1840 - 1898. This history is made up of four books. In the first book, the United States is born. In the second book, the nation is torn by war --- and then rebuilds. In the third book, Americans move onto the world stage. In the fourth book, the U.S. fights wars all over the globe -- against Germany and Japan, in Korea and Vietnam. Of course, this is not all that happens, there is much more. Each book contains 2 special sections: "Looking Ahead" sections describe a period of time in a general way. The following chapters go into detail about that period. "Looking Back" sections conclude the study of each time period, remind you of what you have learned, and help you to practice old skills and learn new ones. Included are charts about the US Presidents and the 50 states.
