  • Daisy Miller an International Episode

    Henry James

(New York, New York, U.S.A.Book league of America, Jan. 1, 1929)
American-born writer, gifted with talents in literature, psychology, and philosophy. James wrote 20 novels, 112 stories, 12 plays and works of literary criticism. Among James's most famous literary works are The Europeans, the critically acclaimed Washington Square, The Bostonians, The Turn of the Screw. In his commercially successful novel, Daisy Miller, James follows the adventures of young Daisy Miller, an American on holiday with her mother in Europe. Daisy's friendship with an American gentleman, Mr. Winterbourne, and her subsequent infatuation with a passionate but impoverished Italian bring to life the great Jamesian themes of Americans abroad, innocence versus experience, and the grip of fate. Daisy Miller is a late 19th century work written by author Henry James about a confused courtship between an American girl and her compatriot Winterbourne, wh ois an individual with a much greater deal of sophistication than herself. When they meet in Switzerland and Italy, his prsuit of Daisy is hampered by her flirtatiousness that is not looked at very highly by fellow expatriates. This classic tragedy by Henry James is largely deals with the understanding of differences of societies and social mores created by these differences. This is an important work by Henry james and should not be passed up by those interested in his writings.
