    Jane Austen, C. E. Brock

eBook (Cervantes Digital, July 1, 2014)
“Beware how you give your heart.”The heroine of Northanger Abbey is a Gothic novel-obsessed young woman who sees intrigue and mystery everywhere. Visiting Bath with her friend Mrs. Allen, an older but flighty, irresponsible woman, Catherine Morland falls in love with Henry Tilney, a young clergyman. Believing her to be wealthy, Henry’s father invites Catherine to Northanger Abbey, the Tilney home. Greatly influenced by her reading of Mrs. Radcliffe’s novel Mysteries of Udolpho, Catherine sees Nightmare Abbey as a house of nightmarish mysteries. But is it just her imagination or is there something more sinister lurking in the ancient cloisters? The novel gives Austen an opportunity to satirize the Radcliffe school of Romantic mystery and to explore a favorite theme of feminine self-delusion. Northanger Abbey is presented here with the original color illustrations by C.E. Brock from the 1907 edition of the novel. • Northanger Abbey

    Jane Austen

eBook (Cotswold Willow Publishing, June 10, 2015)
Northanger Abbey was the first novel to be completed by Jane Austen in 1798, but after being bought by a publisher – who then didn’t publish – became the last to be published, posthumously in 1818. The story follows Catherine Morland, an honest, sweet girl of seventeen who is invited to her first society parties and balls in Bath, courtesy of her neighbours, The Allens. Catherine enjoys reading fashionable Gothic Novels, and translates the fictional ideas into real life, imagining the upstanding General Tilney, father of her love interest Henry, has murdered his wife. The themes of love and marriage, property and social status, as well as misunderstandings and intrigue, once again, take central stage to give us another delightful romance with a moral and happy ending. Northanger Abbey has been the inspiration for an abundance of novels, short stories, TV adaptations and a 1986 film of the same name.Buy this ebook free of spelling and formatting errors today, and enjoy forever. In this novel from her own youth, Austen created a teenage heroine who keeps making mistakes, but whose impressionability is loveable to the hero as well as the reader. “ John Mullan“But this is one of my favorites because it is so fun and light. It's breezy, and this may sound weird, but I think it most shows what Jane would have been like as a friend.” Misty“Jane Austen’s first novel tells the story of Catherine Morland, the very ideal of a nice girl. But her naïve heroine is also in possession of an overactive imagination, fueled by her obsession with gothic novels. When Catherine meets Henry Tilney, she’s instantly smitten. But when she’s invited to his home, the sinister Northanger Abbey, she learns not to interpret the world through the pages of lurid thrillers.” Booking in HeelsNORTHANGER ABBEY is a specially issued release to mark the anniversary of one of the greatest romance novels ever written. • Northanger Abbey

    Jane Austen

    eBook (, Aug. 4, 2014)
This edition includes 10 illustrations. Jane Austen has won legions of devoted fans in the 200 years since her death with her masterful parody of courtship and lightly moralizing critique of social mores in the early 19th century. Northanger Abbey was the first of her major novels to be completed, and though it was sold to a publisher in 1803, it was not released until 1817, months after her death. The tale of Gothic novel-obsessed Catherine Morland gives readers, particularly Austen fans that have only experienced her later works, an early point of reference by which to chart the sharpening of her famous wit.

    Northanger Abbey

eBook (Green Planet Publishing, Dec. 22, 2015)
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen How is this book unique? Illustrations IncludedNorthanger Abbey /ˈnɔrθˌæŋɡər/ was the first of Jane Austen's novels to be completed for publication, though she had previously made a start on Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. According to Cassandra Austen's Memorandum, Susan (as it was first called) was written circa 1798–99. It was revised by Austen for the press in 1803, and sold in the same year for £10 to a London bookseller, Crosby & Co., who decided against publishing. In the spring of 1816, the bookseller was content to sell it back to the novelist's brother, Henry Austen, for the exact sum—£10—that he had paid for it at the beginning, not knowing that the writer was by then the author of four popular novels. The novel was further revised by Austen in 1816/17, with the intention of having it published. Among other changes, the lead character's name was changed from Susan to Catherine, and Austen retitled the book Catherine as a result. Austen died in July 1817. Northanger Abbey (as the novel was now called) was brought out posthumously in late December 1817 (1818 given on the title page), as the first two volumes of a four-volume set that also featured another previously unpublished Austen novel, Persuasion. Neither novel was published under the title Jane Austen had given it; the title Northanger Abbey is presumed to have been the invention of Henry Austen, who had arranged for the book's publication.
