    Paperback (Aegypan, Nov. 1, 2007)
The Frozen Pirate is the story of Paul Rodney, a sailor who narrowly escapes death by shipwreck and exposure in the Straits of Magellan. Surmounting that peril, he faces another: Embedded in the Antarctic ice is an ancient vessel, filled with what seem to be frozen, contorted corpses. But the ship is a pirate ship, and the corpses aren't dead. When one of them revives, Rodney must fend off (and cooperate with, if he hopes to survive) one of the most bloodthirsty and black-hearted scoundrels ever to sail the seven seas!William Clark Russell was a writer of nautical novels, born in New York. He spent eight years at sea as a sailor, gaining the experience he would use in his fiction. After his years at sea, he turned to journalism, and was on the staff of New York's Daily Chronicle before he took to writing novels.

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Written in 1887, The Frozen Pirate is a wonderful adventure novel with some fascinating plot elements worthy of the best science fiction stories, with lots of intrigue and danger, spiced with uncertainty and fear. The protagonist of the story is a pirate who becomes frozen in the ice of the Antarctica for half a century. The story starts slowly, but after a the first few chapters it reaches travelling speed and the readers soon find themselves hooked so much that they are unable to put down the book. The pirate sails his ship into the freezing waters of the Antarctic where fifty years later he is discovered by Paul Rodney, a sailor who only narrowly escapes death himself. Rodney gets shipwrecked in the Magellan Strait, and then comes across a ship with lots of frozen corpses on board. He is shocked to see that one of the corpses is reviving and he is even more shocked to discover that the revived man is actually one of the cruelest pirates who has ever the world’s seas – and this is only the beginning of the adventures. The book alternates episodes with lots of adventures with long and detailed descriptions of the sea and of the ships inspired by the writer’s own experience – Russell spent eight years at sea, working as a sailor, the details about seafaring being all accurate. These descriptions serve not only informative purposes – they are also there to set the general atmosphere of the book and they are so good that you can actually feel the Antarctic cold on your skin while reading. Russell makes the most of the fantastic situation that serves as the starting point of the story, combining improbable events with elements taken from reality. The result is an excellent novel that will serve as great entertainment for readers of any age.
