Preloaded Digital Audio Player (Simon & Schuster, Dec. 1, 2008)
For many of us, Peter Pan is one of those stories we know from popular culture but have never actually read. Now is the time to learn what a wonderful (and often adult) story it is. Tim Curry provides the perfect introduction with his rich voice, British accent, and tongue lodged firmly in cheek. He creates a magical world of pirates, fairies, nanny, lost children, and the boy who never grows up. Curry develops distinctive voices for all the characters -- Captain Hook is a particular delight -- and employs an appropriately slow pace, making it feel as if he is reading us a bedtime story.

All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, “Oh, why can’t you remain like this for ever!” This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end.
