JIMMY SKUNK IS PUZZLED Old MOther West Wind had just come down from the Purple Hills and turned loose her children, the Merry Little Breezes, from the big bag in which she had been carrying them. They were very lively and very merry as they danced and raced across the Green Meadows in all directions, for it was good to be back there once more. Old MOther West Wind almost sighed as she watched them for a few minutes. She felt that she would like to join them. Always the springtime made her feel this way,—young, mad, carefree, and happy. But she had work to do. She had to turn the windmill to pump water for Farmer Brown's cows, and this was only one of many mills standing idle as they waited for her. So she puffed her cheeks out and started about her business. Jimmy Skunk sat at the top of the hill that overlooks the Green Meadows and watched her out of sight. Then he started to amble down the Lone Little Path to look for some beetles. He was ambling along in his lazy way, for you know he never hurries, when he heard some one puffing and blowing behind him. Of course he turned to see who it was, and he was greatly surprised when he discovered Old Mr. Toad. Yes, Sir, it was Old Mr. Toad, and he seemed in a great hurry. He was quite short of breath, but he was hopping along in the most determined way as if he were in a great hurry to get somewhere. Now it is a very unusual thing for Mr. Toad to hurry, very unusual indeed. As a rule he hops a few steps and then sits down to think it over. Jimmy had never before seen him hop more than a few steps unless he was trying to get away from danger, from Mr. Blacksnake for instance. Of course the first thing Jimmy thought of was Mr. Blacksnake, and he looked for him. But there was no sign of Mr. Blacksnake nor of any Other danger. Then he looked very hard at Old Mr. Toad, and he saw right away that Old Mr. Toad didn't seem to be frightened at all, only very determined, and as if he had something important on his mind. "Well, well," exclaimed Jimmy Skunk, "whatever has got into those long hind legs of yours to make them work so fast

Audio CD (St. Clare Audio, Aug. 16, 2016)
2 Audio CD's - 1 Hour and 42 Minutes. The Adventures of Old Mr. Toad, once again, the masterful Thornton Burgess takes us into the charming world of the Green Forest and the Smiling Pool. Old Mr. Toad was acting strangely, and his behavior puzzled all the creatures of the Green Meadow. Jimmy Skunk, Peter Cottontail, Unc' Billy Possum, and some other animals of the Green Forest secretly follow the old gentleman through the fields and woods to see what he is up to. In this delightful volume we follow along with Old Mr. Toad as he joins the Spring Chorus at the Smiling Pool, shows off his babies, displays his special tongue to Peter Rabbit and has a very special encounter with Buster Bear. We also learn little lessons about life such as: pride can burst like a great big bubble, your friends' hidden talents may surprise you, and it is considered impolite to watch someone change his clothes - especially when he eats them. Our CDs are packaged in premium DVD cases with CD labeling printed right on the CD in full color. We do not use paper stick-on labels, these tend to peel off over time and can really jam up car CD players and computers. We chose to use DVD cases for our CD sets, as we have found they hold up better in shipping and in regular usage than the typical CD jewel case. Please note: All recordings we offer on CD are produced with recordings from Librivox, public domain works recorded by volunteers. We at St. Clare Audio would like to thank the volunteers for their gift of offering their work to the public domain. St. Clare Audio's niche is providing them in ready-to-purchase CD sets, for those who cannot download, or have not the desire or time to do so, as well as the benefit of a nice case and professionally produced CDs. The Adventures of Old Mr. Toad read by John Lieder.

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, July 24, 2015)
About the Book The action and adventure genre in fiction depicts events or a series of events that happen outside the ordinary course of the protagonist's daily life, generally accompanied by dangerous episodes and physical action. Adventure stories are quick moving, with the pace of the plot being a critical component of mood setting. Action and adventure have been common book themes since the earliest days of fiction writing. In fact, the plots of Medieval romances were comprised of a series of adventures. Action / adventure fiction often overlaps with other genres, such as: war novels, crime novels, sea stories, Robinsonades, and spy stories. Also in this Book Our titles on adventurers and explorers present the lives and exploits of people who explored or travelled the world in a pioneering way. These include naturalists, sailors, mountain climbers, dog sledders, swimmers, pilots, and underwater explorers. Their activities had profound effects on the dissemination of religion, agricultural techniques, cultural values, disease, and the establishment of colonies throughout the world. About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. While these books may have occasional imperfections, we consider that only hand checking of every page ensures readable content without poor picture quality, blurred or missing text etc. That's why we: republish only hand checked books; that are high quality; enabling readers to see classic books in original formats; that are unlikely to have missing or blurred pages. You can search "Leopold Classic Library" in categories of your interest to find other books in our extensive collection. Happy reading!
