Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Nov. 27, 2017)
Excerpt from The Sea-HawkLord henry goade, who had, as we shall see, some pera sonal acquaintance with Sir Oliver Tressilian, tells us quite bluntly that he was ill-favoured. But then his lordship is addicted to harsh judgments and his perceptions are not always normal. He says, for instance, of Anne of Cleves, that she was the ugliest woman that ever I saw. As far as we can glean from his own voluminous writings it would seem to be extremely doubtful whether he ever saw Anne of Cleves at all, and we suspect him here of being no more than a slavish echo of the common voice, which at tributed Cromwell's downfall to the ugliness of this bride he procured for his Bluebeard master. To the common voice I prefer the document from the brush of Holbein, which permits us to form our own opinions and shows us a lady who is certainly very far from deserving his lord ship's harsh stricture. Similarly, I like to believe that Lord Henry was wrong in his pronouncement upon Sir Oliver, and I am encouraged in this belief by the pen-portrait which he himself appends to it. He was, he says, a tall, powerful fellow of a good shape, if we except that his arms were too long and that his feet and hands were of an uncomely bigness. In face he was swarthy, with black hair and a black forked beard; his nose was big and very high in the bridge, and his eyes sunk deep under beet ling eyebrows were very pale-coloured and very cruel and sinister. He had - and this I have ever remarked to be the sign of great virility in a man - a big, deep, rough voice, better suited to, and no doubt oftener employed in, quarter deck oaths and foulnesses than the worship of his Maker.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • The Sea Hawk

    (IDB Productions, Jan. 1, 2016)
This is the story of Sir Oliver Tressilian, an English nobleman who lives together with his brother Lionel, and is betrothed to Rosamund Godolphin, whose family – her brother Peter in particular – has very little sympathy for the Tressilians. After an affair that has Lionel kill Peter in a duel with no witnesses, Sir Oliver is betrayed by his own brother, charged for the murder, then kidnapped and sold into slavery. However, after Muslim pirates liberate the slaves held on the ship carrying Oliver to the new world, the nobleman soon becomes a pirate in his own rank, vowing to take revenge on his brother under his new name: Sea-Hawk.The Sea-Hawk is one of Rafael Sabatini’s most impressive and popular seafaring novels. A book that raises to the same level as Sabatini’s famous story, Captain Blood, The Sea-Hawk is a swashbuckling tale that soon became a classic, having been adapted as a movie twice during the first half of the 20th century. The story itself is far more than just a tale about pirates robbing and killing whoever they pleased. Although it was written more than 300 years after the age of pirates, it is a genuine story about betrayal and love, as it was often seen in the 15th century, and of the strength that men like Sir Oliver had in pursuing their life purpose. It is also fascinating through the psychological implications of how and why Oliver Tressilian became the Sea-Hawk.A thrilling seafaring adventure to the very end, you’ll find that reading The Sea-Hawk will be extremely satisfying, especially if you enjoy adventures about facing and overcoming not only the dangers and challenges of living at sea, but also that of trusting even one’s own family members, when the stakes are high enough. The book is quite inspiring to say the least, and written in the characteristic style of Rafael Sabatini, it will likely be very hard to put down.
