A Chinese boy, Moon Shadow, journeys t America to join his father, Windrider, whom he has never met. On his first night in San Francisco, Windrider reveals that he was once a dragon in another life. Having heard of the Wright Brothers efforts, he dreams of recapturing the experience of flight by building his own airplane. Moon Shadow joins him in that quest which goes on despite catastrophes like earthquakes. As Moon Shadow helps his father construct their airplane, he not only explores the strange land that is America but the friendship to the stranger who is his father.
