1927. This book, originally written in 1919, was printed for the author and his friends, not for general publication. Lawrence abridged the original work and the present volume is about one-half the size of the original. Lawrence stated that if he was asked why he had abridged an unsatisfactory book instead of recasting it as a history, he would plead that to do so nice a job in the barracks which were his home since 1922 would need a degree of concentration amounting in an airman to moroseness; and an interest in the subject which was exhausted long ago in the actual experience of it.

Revolt in the Desert is an abridged edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom -- 120,000 words out of 280,000. Revolt in the Desert was turned more into a straight narrative rather than a 'comprehensive anthology of echoes', as Lawrence called Seven Pillars, with its 'wild map of side-scenes and side-issues'. All the same, we get a vivid impression of what Winston Churchill called 'those long grim camel rides through sun-scorched blasted lands'. First published by The Folio Society in 1986. SEE OUR 3 PHOTOS! This 336-page hardback edition was published in 1927 by Garden City Publishing. Internal pages have no writing, with minor (1/4 x 1/16) edge deterioration on first 4 pages. The pages are yellowed/aged evenly. There is no dust cover. The light brown hardcover is very nice (like photo), with very minimal bumped corners. The spine has faded slightly. The dark brown lettering on face and spine is very good. The binding is solid. Overall, a very nice Lawrence collectable. See our 3 photos on a white towel.
