First (American) Edition of this boys' tale of an 1869 journey through the Colorado River canyons. Though Blackie's London edition is dated 1895, both were issued more-or-less simultaneously for the holiday season in late 1894. A minor curiosity is that the illustrator is cited as G. C. Hindley in Blackie's edition, and as G. A. Hindley in this one.

This is a pre-1923 historical reproduction that was curated for quality. The hero, Tom Wade, goes to seek his uncle in Colorado, who is a hunter and gold-digger, and he is discovered after many dangers, out on the plains with some comrades. Going in quest of a gold mine the little band is spied by Indians, chased across the Bad Lands, and overwhelmed by a snowstorm in the mountains.
