  • Thousand Words

    Jennifer Brown

Paperback (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, April 1, 2014)
I bit my lip as I typed in the words "sexting and teens" and hit "search." Articles popped up, one after another, and I groaned inwardly. Most of them were about me.Ashleigh's boyfriend, Kaleb, is about to leave for college. So at a legendary end-of-summer pool party, Ashleigh's friends suggest that she text him a picture of herself -- sans swimsuit -- to take with him. Before she can change her mind, Ashleigh has snapped a photo and hit "send."But when Kaleb and Ashleigh go through a bad breakup, Kaleb forwards the text to his baseball team. Soon the photo has gone viral, attracting the attention of the school board, the local police, and the media. In the midst of the scandal, Ashleigh feels completely alone -- until she meets Mack at community service. Not only does Mack offer a fresh chance at friendship, but he's the one person in town who received the text of Ashleigh's photo and didn't look. Acclaimed author Jennifer Brown delivers a gripping novel about honesty, betrayal, redemption, and friendship, as Ashleigh finds that while a picture may be worth a thousand words . . . it doesn't always tell the whole story.

    Erica Weisz

Hardcover (Trism Books, Feb. 1, 2016)
Theodore's tough talk bullies those around him. As he embarrasses Kristen, mocks Jonathon, and spreads rumors about the new kid, he not only hurts those around him, but isolates himself. As Theodore continues to talk recklessly, his dad warns, "Theodore, monitor your mouth's mutterings. If mean words continue to leave those loose lips of yours, you will use them all up!" That next morning, Theodore wakes up to find himself terrifically tongue tied. Without his words, Theodore finds himself in a new, unfamiliar, and scary world. Only when Theodore is silent, is he finally able to see the uniqueness of those around him. In a world where words have the power to hurt and the power to heal, this book can be used as a tool to engage meaningful dialogue between children and the adults in their lives about the power they carry with them every day.

  • Not Worth A Thousand Words

    S.G. Sardi

    (, Dec. 10, 2016)
What happens when a seventeen year old sends a nude picture to his girlfriend? All hell breaks loose. In a stupid decision that he didn’t expect to have any consequences Jason just wants to play along with his girlfriend and does what he thinks she wants. A selfie that was only supposed to be for her.Supposed to be only for her. What follows is what happens when teenagers make stupid choices and adults overreact to stupidity. Good judgment and common sense comes from where no one expects: Jason’s stepbrother. Rude and obnoxious Gregg might be the only person who can get Jason out of a mess that didn’t know he was creating. This is a 54,000 word novel intended for young adults, which means it’s full of profanity and situations no one with good common sense would ever find themselves in, yet since the characters are teenagers, they make very bad decisions. If you’re easily offended, this isn’t the book for you.Excerpt:From out of nowhere Charity sidled up to him and commented, “You opened a real storm with your website, you know that?” “Yes.”And then she shook her head. “And, as always, always a self-centered ass. Anyway, you’re the talk of the school for the moment. Don’t get used to it. Something more interesting will happen by lunchtime.”“Thanks.”Gregg knew that more than a few students at least looked in on the Halve Maen’s website on a semi-regular basis. Today it seemed like most of the student body had read, or at least heard about, the article on Charlie. As he proceeded through the day he was given appreciative nods and both quiet and not-so quiet compliments. Halfway through the day he was exhausted by the attention and was starting to wish he had never written the damn article, not because it caused him grief with the Hedgerow, but because he couldn’t stand having to deal with all the students. Charity’s prediction of his notoriety being just a passing fad was oddly accurate. Something was going to change that; something more important was going to come along. That was fine with Gregg.

    Mrs. Weisz

Paperback (Mrs. Weisz Books, March 15, 2013)
Theodore's tough talk bullies those around him. When mean words continue to leave Theodore's loose lips, his dad warns him to watch out... What happens when Theodore wakes up to find himself terrifically tongue tied? Through this thought provoking book Mrs. Weisz tackles the power of words. The idea for One Thousand and One Words came about because Weisz had witnessed a lot of verbal bullying in and around the classroom, and saw a need for a children's book that could teach the importance of creating a safe space in schools for children to express themselves and communicate without fear of peer ridicule. This inspired her to write and illustrate a book that would capture the attention of elementary-aged students and challenge them to "think and read between the lines," a book that "speaks to character-building, communication and personal growth."
