This book is one in a series of children’s reading books that was created for early grade readers in Malawi by Lakeland College art students. Each story is told in an English version and in a separate Chichewa version. All art is original work created by the Lakeland student-artist named on the title page, and all of the story text was written by the young Malawian author named on the title page. The first edition of this book was printed through Lakeland College in 2014. The second edition, however, has been re-edited and published by Pebblebrook Press, an imprint of Stoneboat Literary Journal, in order to offer the series to a wider readership.

Nate is three years old and worried about his future. What should he be when he grows up? His love of trucks leads him to a logical conclusion: he will be a truck! But he doesn’t want to be a typical truck, the kind we see on our streets and roads. No, the truck that is Nate must curious and cool and attract attention. So he does his research and finds fascinating trucks from America to Asia, but life as a truck may have challenges he did not consider.

Parents please be aware that this book has 20 amazing photographs of Baby Animals and words that are aimed at early/beginner readers. Here is what you have to do. You will see twenty baby animal pictures. In each picture you will find a number of letters. See if you can guess what career each animal wants to do when they grow up. Two hints are given for each picture to help you guess what the messed up letters might spell. Have fun working out what each baby animal wants to be when they grow up.
