  • The Sleepover

    Tarreka Garnett, Damon Danielson

Paperback (Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency, LLC, May 27, 2013)
The Sleepover is a story about a nine-year-old girl named Trisha Williams who is a magnificent writer. She writes about how much she loves and adores her mother, but she hasn't told anyone that she doesn't know her mother and instead lives with her grandmother. Trisha's classmates love to hear about her mother and how she saves the president from danger. A classmate named Joshua isn't convinced by her elaborate stories and believes Trisha should be exposed as a fraud. Trisha thinks if anyone ever finds out, they will walk out of her life just as her mom did. One day Trisha's teacher informs the class that the local newspaper is sponsoring a short story contest and a student will be chosen to represent the class. Trisha is apprehensive, but somehow one of her stories about her mother is submitted and she is chosen to represent the class in the contest. More alarming is the fact that if Trisha wins, the first place prize includes a mother-daughter sleepover where Trisha is expected to bring her mom. Raised by her grandmother in Miami, Tarreka Garnett is now a fourth grade teacher in Tampa, Florida. "When I was young, I wished there was a story that reflected me. A story that told me that I was normal and that I was loved. I wrote this story so children know and understand that families come in all shapes and sizes. Love isn't measured by who is raising you, it is measured by the effort and love that they exhibit while they are doing it." Publisher's website: http://sbpra.com/TarrekaGarnett
