W.W. Jacobs is primarily known for the celebrated short story "The Monkey's Paw". Most of his other short stories are light tales about the misadventures of not too bright sailors. This earlier collection contains not only "The Monkey's Paw" but other serious pieces, such as "The Well" and "Three at Table." Even the light stories are among his better ones. (Goodreads)
