Excerpt from The Carolina Magazine, Vol. 67: October, 1937It was during this period when the Klan was being attacked with such force by the Advertiser and a few allies that an incident occurred which demonstrated the awkward position of those who tried to extricate themselves publicly. Charlie Mc Call, the Attorney - General, publicly resigned from the Klan and denounced it. He was praised by the anti-klan forces; but in 1930 when he ran for Governor he received less than four per cent of the vote - despite the fact that he had a good sound truck.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
