    Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, )
About the Book Teaching methods comprise the principles and methods that are used by teachers to facilitate learning by students. Strategies are determined both by the subject matter to be taught and the characteristics of the student. While today’s schools encourage creativity, this was not always the case. Also in this Book Study aids that help students preparation for taking tests or exams are learning tools designed to increase the students' performance. Preparations may be for regular school, college or university tests, or for entrance examinations for college (e.g. the SAT and ACT), or business school (the GMAT). The range of resouces available to students include: Mock exams (i.e. practice exams), Mind Maps, Study Guides, Courses, Tutors, and Study groups. And in this Book A dictionary is a collection of words in one or more specific languages, generally displayed alphabetically, which often incorporate definitions, usage, etymologies, pronunciations, translation, etc. It may also be a book that shows the words in one language with their equivalent in the other language, although this is also known as a lexicon. The most ancient dictionaries were Akkadian Empire (Syria) cuneiform tablets that contained bilingual Sumerian–Akkadian wordlists (2300 BC). In English the word "dictionary" was invented by John of Garland in 1220 when he wrote a book called "Dictionarius" to assist with Latin "diction". An non-alphabetical list of 8000 English words called the "Elementarie", was compiled by Richard Mulcaster in 1582.About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. Paperback (Forgotten Books, July 7, 2017)
Excerpt from Teaching to ReadThere is no other subject in which the results have been so unsatisfactory as in reading, considering the amount of time devoted to it in school. The chief reason for the failure has been that the aim has been to train the race to read aloud instead of training it to read. The power of reading well means the power of getting thought from visible language rapidly, definitely and comprehensively. Very nearly all reading has to be done silently, yet in the past, the aim of the schools has been to train pupils to read aloud. Tested by the power of their pupils as a whole to read well aloud, or to read well silently, the work of the schools has been a lamentable failure. The teachers of the past believed that the way to train a child to be a good silent reader was to train him to read aloud. The reverse is true. The true way to make both good oral readers and good readers is to begin by making good silent readers. The aim in the past was to train pupils to read slowly; the true aim is to train them to read as fast as possible. The man who reads only two pages in the time in which he should be able to read three pages is handicapped for life.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
