  • Tales of the Slayers

Joss Whedon, Gene Colan, Tim Sale, P. Craig Russell

Paperback (Dark Horse, Feb. 11, 2002)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the latest in a long tradition of young women who've been trained to give their lives in the war against vampires. We've gotten glimpses of these other women over the years on T.V., in comics, and in books. Now for the first time, the writers from the television series, including the show's creator, Joss Whedon, and one of its stars, Amber "Tara" Benson, present the tales of these girls, with the help of comics' greatest artists. Gene Colan, co-creator of Marvel's Blade and Tomb of Dracula, returns to Dark Horse for the story of a young girl in 1970s New York, battling vampires. Tim Sale, artist of recent epics Batman: The Long Halloween and Superman for All Seasons teams with Joss Whedon for a grim tale of a medieval slayer. American comics legend P. Craig Russell (Dr. Strange, The Ring of the Nibelung) and international rising star Mira Friedmann (Actus Tragicus) also join the stellar lineup.
  • The Deerslayer, Vol. 2 of 3: A Tale

    James Fenimore Cooper

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Jan. 29, 2018)
Excerpt from The Deerslayer, Vol. 2 of 3: A TaleAs the encampment was in the midst of a dense wood, the eye could not take in its tout ensemble at a glance but but after but started out of the gloomy picture, as one gazed about him in quest of objects. There was no centre, unless the fire might be so considered - no open area where the possessors of this rude Village might congregate; but all was concealed, dark, covert, and cunning, like its owners. A few children strayed from hut to but, giving the spot a little the air of domestic life; and the suppressed laugh, and low voices of the women occasionally broke in upon the deep stillness of the sombre forest. As for the men, they either ate, slept, or examined their arms. They conversed but little, and then usually apart, or in groups withdrawn from the females; whilst an air of untiring, innate watchfulness and apprehension of danger seemed to be blended even with their slumbers.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
