In a fantastical far-future of airships, magic rocks, and insane hyper-capitalist demons, SOPHIE will soon become the Goddess for a great city of millions. But she's afraid-- her predecessor went completely mad, and lost herself in the transformation. So, to hold onto her sanity, Sophie tells the true story of her unlikely rise to power. Four hundred years ago, Sophie was just a small town nobody in the post-apocalypse. But her understanding of the world changes forever when THE PALLADIA, a fallen goddess, crash-lands into her home-- and commands her to bring her back to her empire, at any cost. Pursued by a massive, sinister mining company, Sophie must hide the helpless Goddess, or face horrifying consequences. But to hide from her nightmarish pursuers, Sophie must get a dangerous job as a hauler-- a flying tugboat operator-- under the enigmatic CAPTAIN LAKE, a ruined man of secrets. But as she learns more about her new life on the air, she learns that the Palladia may be far, far more terrible than she appears. Inspired by my love of the work of Hayao Miyazaki, this novel is the first in a series on the rise of Sophie-- as she becomes a center figure in a great war, with millions of lives at stake. But as we hear her story, we wonder: has she already lost her humanity in the process?
