Max, an inquisitive German shepherd, follows Jerry everywhere. Max especially enjoys fishing trips. His specialty is romping in the water. Jerry, Max and friend, David, head to the slack water pond one day, just off the river, for a fishing outing. After they have been there a while, they observe a mysterious object bobbing and twisting in the eddy where the river empties into the pond. The boys are curious about this interesting object and discuss what to do. They watch as the object breaks free of the swirl and inches closer to them. Max is nervous and repeatedly barks his disapproval, but the boys decide to seek out the object, wading out chest deep into the water. Jerry then sees what the object is, and a quick retreat and a race back home is in order. Max's first impression was therby justified, however, he is disappointed that the trip ended so abruptly.
