I’d been researching the figure of the child in horror literature, and was about to write some 8000 words on it. It seemed like a good idea to write a horror story about a child. Poppy is, I hope, a pretty believable six-year-old girl. The story is about her belief in a monster, the kind that favours the inside of children’s wardrobes. But the real point of the story is about the nature of childhood innocence – and one little girl’s battle for it. In Poppy’s story, it’s not so much about what’s happening around her but what’s happening inside her mind that is the real battle.

Fergus is a wee laddie, twelve years of age. Being small, he is picked on by the other boys. He is chased by them at school. Fergus develops a method of running, dodging, and evading that helps him exist in his small world.His favorite hiding place is a boulder on Loch Ness. There he meets the famous Loch Ness Monster, who has things in common with Fergus. Fergus and the Loch Ness Monster become friends, and through this interaction, Fergus is accepted by his peers. Through his new friend, he is encouraged to help himself and his football team. Thus, they can play as a team and win games.Being brave, courageous, and using our talents, we can improve our lives and the lives of others.

When seventh grader Monty Hyde moves for the fourth time in two years, it’s the same old story. New neighborhood, new school, new bullies, no friends. With his dad working all the time and his older brother too popular to notice, he’s the lonely outcast yet again. That is until he finds a mysterious replication serum in his basement and decides to make a friend. From scratch. But when his creation turns out to be a stinky, hairy eight-foot-tall monster that might be eating the neighborhood kids, Monty knows he must undo his experiment. Problem is, it’s the best friend he’s ever had.
