    William Wilder McKinley Parker

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Sept. 27, 2015)
Excerpt from Flowing GoldDear Mr. Parker,Please send me four of your new books, "Silver Forks", at your earliest convenience. I want to send them out as Christmas gifts. Your book is a good story of the North and it promises to be very interesting. I like the reviews of the book written for you during the first month after you published it.Dear Mr. Parker:I was quite literally fascinated by your "Rhymes from the North-West", "Uncle Jay of a Pioneer Day" and "Silver Forks". (The title of the latter work is one of the most spectacular puns I've ever seen in print.) As an eastern Canadian I particularly appreciate the vivid details in your pictures of a part of my country I don't know at first hand - precisely the details which best make it come alive, and sound as big and wonderful and as clean as it must be. I may read some of your poems on my radio program sometime.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Spoilers was among the record breaking novels of 1906.The Silver Horde (1909), one of his novels, took place in Kalvik, a novelized society in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and narrates the tale of a lucky gold prospector who discovers a bigger fortune in Alaska's run of salmon or silver horde and agrees to start a cannery. His action-adventure novels, inspired by Jack London, were intensely famous during the start of 1900s. Rex was hailed as the "Victor Hugo of the North," although others opined on his novels as systematic and expectable. Scholars illustrated them as cut from the "he-man school" of literature: tales of "strong hairy men doing strong hairy deeds." Paperback (1st World Library - Literary Society, Feb. 20, 2007)
Room service at the Ajax is of a quality befitting the newest, the largest, and the most expensive hotel in Dallas. While the standard of excellence is uniformly high, nevertheless some extra care usually attaches to a breakfast ordered from the Governor's suite-most elegant and most expensive of all the suites-hence the waiter checked over his card and made a final, fluttering examination to be sure that the chilled fruit was chilled and that the hot plates were hot before he rapped on the door. A voice, loud and cheery, bade him enter. Would the gentleman wish his breakfast served in the parlor or -No, the gentleman would have it right in his bedroom; but first, where were his cigarettes? He hoped above all things that the waiter had not forgotten his cigarettes. Some people began their days with cold showers-nothing less than a cruel shock to a languid nervous system. An atrocious practice, the speaker called it-a relic of barbarism-a fetish of ignorance. Much preferable was a hygienic, stimulating cigarette which served the same purpose and left no deleterious aftereffects.
