After school on his thirteenth birthday, Jamie Larson steals off into the Olympic Rain Forest with his Red Ryder BB gun rifle he wasn't supposed to have. Darkness brings with it a violent storm and Jamie is clueless as to which way is home. Soaked to the bone, emotionally, he cries out for help, knowing no one could possibly hear him over the raging wind and rain. Emerald is also thirteen, and just crowned Fairy Princess of the Forest and given a magic flute by Mother Nature. High up in her Tree Castle, she senses Jamie's emotional cry riding on the wind and rushes to his side. Magically reducing Jamie to her size, she takes him home with her to keep him safe. Now, everything that can go wrong . . . does. Battling fire, water, obnoxious pixies and an evil snake, Jamie and Emerald fall in love, but a love that cannot be. For they are from different realms and Jamie must be returned to his parents at first light. Will they ever meet again? There must be a way.

On her travels across the galaxy to save her family she encounters a variety of threats; galactic 'flu, alien wildlife, pirates and high heels. Can she and the Doodle work togetherRosemary Smith is a qualified veterinary surgeon running her own practice. Alexei and Riqui, although nameless until more recently, have inhabited her head for a long time, often having conversations on the steps that lead up to the starship. The shadowy figure that sometimes strolled through in the background turned out to be Merlin. She took up writing five years ago when their temporary visits became a permanent residence. She has drawn on her love of science, animals and foreign experiences to create the story. The idea for the Doodle came after listening to so many clients telling her that their dogs could read their mind. Long walks with her own dogs are the ideal environment for ironing out wrinkles and stumbling blocks in the plot.Miss Smith lives in rural South Norfolk with her three children, two dogs, three cats and several other furry creatures.
