Now they’ve returned for another Scottish adventure, joining their old friend Tommy and Mr. Maconochie, the new owner of Castle keep, on a trip to Loch Ness, where a new expedition is determined to find the fabled monster. Of course, the fun-loving Boggart comes along for the ride, and wherever the Bogart goes, things are bound to get lively. But this time the Boggart has a serious mission. • Poppy and the Monster

    John Bolton, Kat White

language (Word Heap, April 12, 2014)
Like any 6-year-old, Poppy is afraid of monsters. Particularly the one living in her wardrobe.Every night, she goes to bed scared. But tonight, Poppy is going to confront her monster. And nothing will be the same again.Poppy and the Monster is a horror story for readers aged 9-11. It contains mild peril and descriptions of a monster which younger readers might find upsetting. This story was conceived when I was about to start my degree dissertation. I’d been researching the figure of the child in horror literature, and was about to write some 8000 words on it. It seemed like a good idea to write a horror story about a child. Poppy is, I hope, a pretty believable six-year-old girl. The story is about her belief in a monster, the kind that favours the inside of children’s wardrobes. But the real point of the story is about the nature of childhood innocence – and one little girl’s battle for it. In Poppy’s story, it’s not so much about what’s happening around her but what’s happening inside her mind that is the real battle.
