She could have told them; confessed to the deal, but something held her back. Maybe it was looking into the eyes of the woman she was supposed to hate and seeing a long lost sister… Or maybe it was seeing her father’s all-encompassing crusade, and deciding that she didn’t want to be a part of it. No matter the reason, Roselind Red sealed her fate, and the fate of those around her the moment she agreed to be a mole in her father’s rebellion. She told herself that she did it to save her best friend, Hunt, from taking the fall for someone else’s murder, but that’s a lie, and Red is very good at lying. Maybe she did it for herself. After all, Red never wanted any of this; she only wanted a cabin in the woods with a dog and Hunt at her side. Maybe she thought that she could keep her father from his crusade, and dragging Hunt down with him. She had all the right reasons. But the bombs start dropping, and it’s just a ball of fire rolling down the hill. Red’s lies keep it rolling, each word, a knife to the other side. She certainly can’t take them back, not anymore. She’s buried too deep. Red has to keep going, even if it costs her the love of her life, her father, and her sister. It has to all be worth it, right? It’s not like she can save her already condemned soul. They all want the same things, or do they? The fields are so red… Red as a rose.
