Changing Britain looks at Britain during the period 1500-1750, a time when considerable upheaval occurred. Topics studied include conflict between the crown and parliament and the 'Divine Right of Kings', Civil War and the defeat of the monarchy by Parliament culminating in the execution of Charles I, the period of Cromwell's rule as 'Lord Protector of England', and the eventual restoration of the monarchy in 1658. The book also looks at life in the towns and country, the poor, women and family, exploration and the expansion of trade; it examines the position of the church and religion, divorce, witchcraft and culture.
