  • The Google Book ~ A Dark Forgotten Fairytale

    V. C. Vickers

language (Wonderland Imprints, Aug. 6, 2012)
    * Illustrated“FAR! FAR away, the Google lives, in a land which only children can go to. It is a wonderful land of funny flowers, and birds, and hills of pure white heather.”So begins this fascinating, rare and forgotten book, a naturalist’s guide for a fabulous world which never was. This is a deluxe illustrated edition of THE GOOGLE BOOK, a strangely truncated children’s story about a far-off land and the hungry monster that dwells there.THE GOOGLE BOOK (a name, it seems, far predating the Internet conglomerate) was written in 1913 by an eccentric gentleman, Vincent Cartwright Vickers, while he was serving as Governor of the Bank of England. He illustrated this outlandish book himself, with beautiful surrealist works which seem to predate Edward Gorey’s AMPHIGOREY as well as Maurice Sendak’s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. The book is clearly inspired by the darker imaginings of Lewis Carroll, particularly JABBERWOCKY and THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK. There is a strange dose of medieval bestiaries, topped of Edward Lear-like nonsense, to be found here as well.An early example of the creepy tale for children, THE GOOGLE BOOK hearkens back to an age when books of the imagination were meant to be full of wonder, haunting illustrations, and witty wordplay. This e-book edition includes the original illustrations, as well as close-up details of some of the more intriguing creatures of Google Land.THE GOOGLE BOOK is a nonesuch work, a remarkable curiosity for the reader who holds an appreciation for the secret, the oblique and the absurd.
  • The Golden Age

    Kenneth Grahame

eBook (Wonderland Imprints, Jan. 10, 2014)
    * Illustrated* AnnotatedThe song of a childhood never lost, the celebration of innocence and mischief, the immortality of friendship, the unity of wonder and fear in that long-ago world where the “tall ones” seem to belong to another race entirely … these and more are the treasures to be found and regained in THE GOLDEN AGE.Kenneth Grahame is best known today for the masterpiece he wrote for his son, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS; but it is this book that he loved best, and that sealed his reputation as one of England’s best beloved authors. Few books are as painfully and hilariously insightful toward the meaning of childhood, and the sacredness of nostalgia. THE GOLDEN AGE stands with Tom Sawyer, A Garden of Verses and The Jungle Book as one of the finest “children’s adventures for grownups” of all time. This illustrated edition included 51 beautiful period drawings and paintings, as well as complete annotations and translations by Kent David Kelly, editor of THE COMPLETE ALICE IN WONDERLAND and THE ILLUSTRATED WIND IN THE WILLOWS.(Includes the classic novel in full, with 51 illustrations. 17 chapters, 39,000 words, 160 pages.)

    L. Frank Baum

    * IllustratedA LOST TREASURE TROVE of wonders awaits you in this classic retelling of the best tales of Mother Goose, here retold as full stories with more elaborate rhymes as told by none other than L. Frank Baum, author of THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ. Some of these stories are tinged with Grimm-like darkness, others with the humor ... and you’ll find the very first appearance of Dorothy here as well! Best of all, these tales are illustrated by the legendary Maxfield Parrish, later known for his idealistic fantasy landscapes. This book represents Parrish’s sole collaboration with Baum, and also his first published volume of illustrations (1897). There are 22 tales in all; this book includes 46,000 words, and approximately 160 pages of intriguing tellings of the original tales as you will find nowhere else. Another proud release from WONDERLAND IMPRINTS, Only the Finest Works of Fantasy.
