  • Peter Claver: Saint among Slaves

    Ann Roos

Hardcover (Vision Books, March 15, 1965)
Peter Claver lived, worked, and died more than three hundred years before this book was written. What we know of him today has come from the original Spanish biographies written in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and from that most important document of all, the record of the Process of Beatification and Canonization. This book is based on the known facts of St. Peter Claver's life. Little is known of his childhood and youth. Conversations are authentic in many cases, and those invented are used to dramatize true or probable events. St. Peter Claver lives today in the hearts of those who revere him for his life and heroic service to his enslaved brothers.St Peter Claver: a humble man who looked for God in everyone he met - and never failed to find Him.

  • Circus in the Night Sky

    Lauren Press

Hardcover (Vision Books Intl, Dec. 1, 2000)
After a day of joy at the circus, Sue is reluctant to give up the wondrous visions sheÂ’d like to carry forever. Later that night while lying snug in her bed with her pink balloon tied to her bedpost, she is able to recapture it all as she and her dog, Larry, relive the thrills together. On a soft cloud she and Larry are carried high above the earth and look down on the lights below. She wears her tall, red clown hat and has her balloon with her because Larry likes it, too. The moon welcomes them to the circus of the night sky. They are introduced to scenes of majestic circus animals playing tricks with balls; of floating, runaway balloons creating a panorama of brilliant color; of stars tinkling like bells. They are having fun and are wide-eyed, but finally are sleepy. One of the prancing ponies takes them back over a rainbow to home and bed. Lauren Press both wrote and illustrated this simple tale in a lovely manner, from a childÂ’s view. Her professional work is as a costume designer for feature film, theater and TV productions; but, as a trained and gifted artist, she has enjoyed writing and illustrating several childrenÂ’s books.
