Well, that actually happened to me. I have to admit, I secretly hate that stupid computer system. It keeps referring to me as Parasite 80997. Luckily, I was rescued by a human female. She’s quite pretty, and very nice to me. In fact, I think the gods sent her to be my one. I am fortunate to have such a smart female. She double talked the computer system into opening my containment unit, and now I have the run of the ship. I just need to stay focused on getting to know her, and developing a strong bond with her. I also need to remember what my father taught me about claiming a female. I am supposed to provide for her every need, protect her from all harm, and profess my undying dedication. Provide, Profess, Protect. Provide, Profess, Protect. I can do this. She will fall head over heels in love with me when the time is right. She won’t be able to help herself. Vampire males are the most romantic of all the species in the verse. You can ask anyone. She’ll come around. I just know it!
  • Lord Vradic of the House of Nar

    Melinda W. Burt

eBook (Pixel Perfect Publishing, Oct. 2, 2014)
Humans were confusing creatures.Vradic huffed out an exasperated breath. Why were human females so difficult? How his vampire brothers managed them was one of life’s mysteries. His vampire mind had a hard time understanding his pretty little love mate. She seemed to make it her life’s mission, to challenge him at every turn. Didn’t she know that his one and only goal was to provide for her, protect her, and profess his love for her? He realized with a pang of embarrassment, that was actually three goals. Still she was irritating. Honestly, they had been stranded on the unmanned alien science vessel for almost a year, and she still didn’t get it.Well, he had made some small amount of progress. She did seem to genuinely care about him. That was sweet. She held hands with him, and even combed the tangles from his hair. He liked that, a lot. She even warmed up to the idea of praying with him. Kneeled in prayer beside her was when he felt the closest to her. It bonded them together somehow. Jeanne was even getting to the point that she could speak his language coherently. As strange as it seemed, hearing her mispronounce words in Vampiere was endearing. She shook the pleasant thought from his mind. None of that made up for the fact, she was slack in her personal defense training. He was doing his very best to teach her to defend herself. However, hand to hand combat was not her strong suit. She needed to stop telling him how unimportant that was, and begin applying herself. If they landed on an unfriendly world, the beautiful female would need more than one warrior to keep her safe.Vradic sighed as he watched his sweet little human playing with her pet. He couldn’t quite help the smile that curved up the corners of his lips. Females were such gentle creatures. They always saw the good in others. She probably could not even imagine the evil that people wrought on each other. He could not envision a more innocent or defenseless creature. She needed a protector more than anyone he had ever met.He suddenly realized that was probably exactly why every warrior had one. He couldn’t imagine any other reason to have a female. Of course he was pretty young, and had not yet come into his hormones. He would be the first to admit that he had no real understanding about the relationships between men and women. It was perplexing. Vradic feared nothing in the verse, not even death. However, the thought of something happening to the small female set off a wave of panic in his chest.
  • Deep Space Survival

    Melinda W. Burt

eBook (Pixel Perfect Publishing, Oct. 21, 2014)
Jeanne gives a long overdue declaration of love to Vradic.Enjoy the continuing adventures of Jeanne Rose and Lord Vradic of the House of Nar. This epic love story between a human female and a vampire warrior begins with being abducted as children. An unmanned alien drone accidentally mistook them for biological samples, and now they were traveling through space at the speed of light. They grew up on the deep space vessel, with only each other to rely upon. As they grow into young adults, they grapple with the feelings nature gave them, and their growing love for one another. They quickly discover, deep space is no place for two young people to find themselves. Vradic is every inch a vampire warrior, but his strength and cunning are challenged when their ship is attacked. The Alono are savage predators, who target solitary vessels in deep space. A brief scan of their ship, would have revealed the large number of rare specimens they were carrying. Feeling the ship shake beneath her feet, as it was pounded with laser fire, was terrifying. Suddenly, Jeanne became very aware of why she needed a protector. Her feelings of annoyance with her vampire protector, turned to gratitude, when Vradic staved off the attack with assistance from the ship’s AI. The more time she spent with Vradic the closer they became. By the time they were turning of age, going back to earth was no longer where Jeanne’s heart guided her. She slowly comes to grips with the reality that she is in love with Vradic. Jeanne can barely contain her enthusiasm, when he suggests a trip to his home world. The idea of seeing another civilization, meeting Vradic’s parents, and taking vows with him leave her head spinning. She can’t help but to wonder how the vampire nobility live. He described his home as a modern day fortress. Vradic will have to fight off all warriors who challenge if he is to keep her at his side.Meanwhile Jeanne has her own set of problems to worry about. Lord Vradic accepted three human females into his onboard harem. He is quick to explain that they are on board to companion his crew and not himself. Still, Vradic is a high status Vampire Lord. He’s wealthy, and drop dead gorgeous. What if one of them pursues him? Would he be able to resist the attentions of an experienced worldly woman? Jeanne is beside herself with worry.
  • Bralex

    Melinda W. Burt

eBook (Pixel Perfect Publishing, Oct. 4, 2014)
He was so much more than just a machineLoneliness marked his artificial existence. One little human saw him as more the sum of his component parts. Jeanne was making him want to be more than a nameless, faceless entity. He had no name, no personal space aboard the vessel, and no one to communicate with. Being a synthetic intelligence, tasked with a ten year mission, was more complex and less fulfilling than most people might imagine. He was tasked with collecting specimens from a variety of worlds deep in space. However, his mission had gone terribly wrong, trapping him on his ship, for over 2,000 years. In his world time slipped sluggishly by. No one knew, or cared where he was. No one spoke to him, or messaged him as he passed them by. There was something about his existence that seemed empty, and devoid of what made other made beings happy. He didn’t know what that something was, but worried it might be the elusive something called a feeling. Feelings were reserved for people. He knew one thing for certain; he was no person. He accidentally collected a human specimen by the name of Jeanne Rose. She was young, feisty, and quite a challenge. In the beginning, he very much regretted picking her up, because she had no idea how to interact with an artificial intelligence. She expected him to act contrary to his programming. This was something he simply could not do. As time wore on, they established a reasonably good rapport. He now had to admit, she was growing on him. He might even say he was fond of her. Jeanne suggested, being the ship's artificial intelligence, did not preclude the possibility of him also being a person. She talked him into choosing a name. Bralex was a good name for one such as him. On his home world, it was easy to tell computers from people. People were gifted with portable transportation units, the humans called bodies. Bodies enabled them the freedom to walk around, learn, and make choices for themselves. Computers were not given portable transportation units so their ability to grow and develop was limited. Also people were given names, computers were not. In choosing a name, he had blurred the line. Would he be punished by his kind? Dismantled and his component parts recycled, to make something more worthwhile? If his 2,000 years of evolution had taught him anything, it was that he desperately wanted more of a life than he currently had. The next thing he knew, the human was suggesting he create an avatar for himself. She was making dangerous and illegal suggestions. He was inclined to follow them. Bralex wanted to hear with ears, and see through ocular devices rather than ship’s scans. He wanted to touch things, taste things, and know what it felt like to be touched.
