Even good readers can struggle when faced with paired passages on tests. In the research-based Spotlight Series, they'll encounter passages representing a variety of genres. A similar topic links each pair: •nonfiction and nonfiction •fiction and fiction •nonfiction and fiction With modeled instruction, guided and independent practice, students learn to: •respond to questions relating to the individual passages, then •respond to questions relating to the (paired) passages together They practice with items common to test-taking: •multiple-choice •short-response/graphic organizer •short-response/writing •note-taking •response to literature, extended writing
