  • Twins Together

    Ph.D. Janet Laur Pallas

    Hardcover (Good Growing Books, )
TWINS TOGETHER is about the unique experience of being a multiple, the joys and struggles of twinship. The story tells about the special fun and closeness of being a multiple, but there are also special problems and the "twin-things" that can and do occur. In situations familiar to families of multiples, the twins have lots of fun together, but that doesn't stop the fights over their possessions. Even having identical things doesn't stop the struggles. Fortunately Dad steps in to save the day. Tense and angry because of all the fighting, Dad manages to calm himself down and helps find a clever solution to the problem. At last, the twins can have fun playing together without worrying about their belongings! Children love to see how these tough problems get solved in this funny and lively story. For multiples, there is special pleasure in seeing how easily and clearly their separate identities and individuality can be recognized. The illustrations show scenes that are a familiar part of family life while the illustrations introduce fantasy animals that scamper about in a world of parallel antics waiting to be discovered by the curious child. Filled with underlying psychological insights, this prize-winning book helps children (and parents) understand and find a way to deal with a common and difficult problem. The story demonstrates the importance of anger management in successful problem solving. It also shows that there are creative and productive ways to resolve tense and angry struggles. The story helps to foster an awareness that there are special issues in raising multiples. The story is full of fun and self recognition for twins and multiples. It is written for ages 2-5 in rhyming verse that paves the way for learning to read.

It is written in a narrative, journal-like form, told from a 20-year-old man's perspective, chronicling the weekly therapy sessions at his college.
