Excerpt from The HouseYou come upon an iron gateway between two square granite columns; the gate freshly painted and in three sections, those on either side bolted to the ground, permitting the use of only that in the centre. The three are opened only on grand oc casions, for carriages and limousines. In old times they were opened for hay waggons. In old times, for that matter, you had only to push a little and you could go in by any gate you pleased, the bolts being out of commission. All sorts of unbidden folk used to come into the court, and to me their intru sions were highly disagreeable. When his friend Charles Pitt-Heron vanishes mysteriously, Sir Edward Leithen is at first only mildly concerned. But a series of strange events that follow Pitt-Heron’s disappearance convinces Leithen that he is dealing with a sinister secret society. Their codename is ‘The Power-House’. The authorities are unable to act without evidence. As he gets deeper involved with the underworld, Leithen finds himself facing the enemy alone and in terrible danger.

The Potter’s House story is about a little piece of clay looking at all the pieces of china around him and seeing what he wants to become. The wise grandparents show patience and love by guiding him to see those choices beyond the exterior and flashiness. It also shows the Potter’s role in helping him to become what is useful and good by molding him into a vessel fitting for His purpose.
