  • The Sword of the Spirit

    Rob Keeley

Paperback (Troubador Publishing, April 28, 2016)
Following the success of his award-longlisted Childish Spirits and its sequel The Spirit of London, prolific children's author Rob Keeley is back with The Sword of the Spirit, the third instalment in his thrilling and suspenseful Spirits series. Ellie's investigations into the spirit world have reached a medieval castle, where archaeologists are digging for the fabled Sword of St Merrell. But she didn't expect to meet a real medieval knight. Nor was she expecting him to be an ancestor of Edward Fitzberranger. Ellie discovers that behind a legend of chivalry and bravery lies a dark and nasty truth. And worse is to come. Ellie's meddling has consequences she could never have foreseen. This time, she may have gone too far...The Sword of the Spirit works both as a standalone novel and as part of a series. It will appeal to girls and boys of upper primary and lower secondary age - primarily 8-12 - and to parents and teachers reading the book aloud.

Greetings to you from my motherā€™s womb. Donā€™t be startled as yet, thereā€™s more to come. I am an unborn foetus. I may have no name or gender at the moment, but I have loads of spirit and courage. I was conceived in a bizarre manner in the cold confines of a laboratory, through a process called, well you guessed it right, IVF. I am growing inside the womb of a surrogate mother. But donā€™t dismiss me as a mere lump of flesh floating in murky amniotic fluid, for I am a spectacular creation with incredible powers. I can hear you ask whatā€™s so special about me. Well, I can see things far beyond the conventional visual fields. I can perceive and process information unknown to many. I can also transcend temporal and spatial barriers. You will understand my astonishing abilities as you read about my adventurous journey, in and out of my motherā€™s womb, across different bodies and souls. Will you join me in my crazy ride?

Pearl Zane Grey (1872 ā€“ 1939) was an American writer most famous for his adventure novels of the Western genre. Other notable works by this author include: ā€œRiders of the Purple Sageā€ (1912), ā€œThe Last Trailā€ (1906), and ā€œThe Lone Star Rangerā€ (1915). Grey continues to be widely read, and his novels and short stories have been adapted for the screen more than a hundred times. • The Spirit of the Border

    Zane Grey

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Sept. 3, 2019)
The Spirit of the Border Chapter I. "Nell, I'm growing powerful fond of you." "So you must be, Master Joe, if often telling makes it true." The girl spoke simply, and with an absence of that roguishness which was characteristic of her. Playful words, arch smiles, and a touch of coquetry had seemed natural to Nell; but now her grave tone and her almost wistful glance disconcerted Joe. During all the long journey over the mountains she had been gay and bright, while now, when they were about to part, perhaps never to meet again, she showed him the deeper and more earnest side of her character. It checked his boldness as nothing else had done. Suddenly there came to him the real meaning of a woman's love when she bestows it without reservation. Silenced by the thought that he had not understood her at all, and the knowledge that he had been half in sport, he gazed out over the wild country before them. The scene impressed its quietness upon the young couple and brought more forcibly to their minds the fact that they were at the gateway of the unknown West; that somewhere beyond this rude frontier settlement, out there in those unbroken forests stretching dark and silent before them, was to be their future home. From the high bank where they stood the land sloped and narrowed gradually until it ended in a sharp point which marked the last bit of land between the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. Here these swift streams merged and formed the broad Ohio. The new-born river, even here at its beginning proud and swelling as if already certain of its far-away grandeur, swept majestically round a wide curve and apparently lost itself in the forest foliage.

On the narrow point of land commanding a view of the rivers stood a long, low structure enclosed by a stockade fence, on the four corners of which were little box-shaped houses that bulged out as if trying to see what was going on beneath. The massive timbers used in the construction of this fort, the square, compact form, and the small, dark holes cut into the walls, gave the structure a threatening, impregnable aspect.

  • The Spirit of the Border Illustrated

    Zane Grey

Paperback (Independently published, Jan. 6, 2020)
The Spirit of the Border is an historical novel written by Zane Grey, first published in 1906. The novel is based on events occurring in the Ohio River Valley in the late eighteenth century. It features the exploits of Lewis Wetzel, a historical personage who had dedicated his life to the destruction of Native Americans and to the protection of nascent white settlements in that region. The story deals with the attempt by Moravian Church missionaries to Christianize Indians and how two brothers' lives take different paths upon their arrival on the border. A highly romanticized account, the novel is the second in a trilogy, the first of which is Betty Zane, Grey's first published work, and The Last Trail, which focuses on the life of Jonathan Zane, Grey's ancestor.
