Six more stories in the branch of Oxford Reading Tree designed for those children who need strongly patterned text and reinforcement of key words. The little books are again accompanied by an extended story booklet, giving a longer version of the story to enable parents and teachers tocontextualize the story and increase understanding and enjoyment. A set of big books will also be available to support the introduction of the More Wrens in the classroom.

From the inimitable Hunt/Brychta stable, stories specially written for children needing help to progress to Stage 4 include: the role reversals of a knight, a princess and a dragon; Dad in pursuit of his musical hobby much to Floppy's consternation; a community help project to improve theenvironment; a strange creature which turns up in the park; Mrs May in great distress (but don't worry, there's a happy ending); and Mum and Dad experiencing the ups and downs of shopping together. Each book consolidates words from Stage 3 Wrens, in patterned sentence constructions. Earlier ORT keywords and other high frequency words are also used.

Stage 1+ More First Sentences Pack A is a another set of six engaging, full sentence stories introducing National Literacy Strategy key words for Reception Year pupils. Together with Stage 1+ First Sentences, the latest stories provide a bridge between Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the Oxford ReadingTree. The stories are all based on familiar Oxford Reading Tree characters: Biff finds out just what dogs like; Dad has some nice surprises after a nasty accident; Floppy goes to a dog show; Biff has her hands full looking after a little friend; Mum gets very muddy; and Floppy meets hismatch!

The teaching notes for the Oxford Reading Tree Biff, Chip and Kipper books are full of practical suggestions for using the storybooks, saving you hours of preparation time. They have been updated in line with the simple view of reading and the renewed Primary Framework for Literacy. They nowinclude guidance for group/guided reading, comprehension and word recognition, and assessment. These replace the existing Teaching Notes and Guided Reading Cards.The storybooks are unchanged, but notes for parents/carers and teaching assistants have been added to the inside covers. These notes replace the existing Take-Home Cards.

A Teacher's Note booklet is included free in every pack of six Oxford Reading Tree stories from Stage 1 - 9. They are also available to buy singly. For easy classroom management, each booklet is the same size as the pupil books at that stage. Every story has individual notes and suggested activities for group and independent reading, speaking and listening, and writing. Cross-curricular links are also suggested. Each Teacher's Note booklet contains a vocabulary chart of NLS high frequency words and context words, and a curriculum coverage chart for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
