  • The Marvelous Land of Oz

    L. Frank Baum

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Jan. 1, 2010)
The Marvelous Land of Oz is the second installment in L. Frank Baum’s Oz series. It is often lauded by fans as the most fun and adventurous title of the series. The Marvelous Land of Oz follows a tale of Tip, an Oz native, who has grown up under the guardianship of a witch named Mombi. Mombi is as formidable a villain as the Wicked Witch of the West; she uses her magic to seek revenge on Tip, who has narrowly escaped her clutches. With him, he brings Jack Pumpkinhead, a scarecrow with a body made of wood and a head formed from a pumpkin, whom Mombi had brought to life with her Magic Living Powder. Tip and an eventual band of companions, including the Tin Man and the Scarecrow, travel throughout the many lands of Oz, fleeing the wrath of Mombi and taking on a female gang called the Army of Revolt, led by one imposing General Jinjur. The gang plans to take over Emerald City, which has been under the Scarecrow’s rule since the end of The Wizard of Oz. New, memorable characters include the Highly Magnified and Thoroughly Educated Wogglebug, as well as the flying Gump. Glinda the Good Witch also makes an appearance, just in time to once again save the day. Since its release, the Marvelous Land of Oz has been adapted into different theatrical productions and film releases, though none garnered the popularity or the praise that The Wizard of Oz did. However, as a novel it stands up very well to its literary predecessor. For years, children have fallen in love the colorful characters and the riveting storyline while adults have pondered over Baum’s satirical writing style. The Marvelous Land of Oz is truly a book for all ages to enjoy. Title: The Marvelous Land of Oz Author: L. • The Marvelous Land of Oz

    L. Frank Baum, 1stWorld Library

Hardcover (1st World Library - Literary Society, May 15, 2005)
In the Country of the Gillikins, which is at the North of the Land of Oz, lived a youth called Tip. There was more to his name than that, for old Mombi often declared that his whole name was Tippetarius; but no one was expected to say such a long word when "Tip" would do just as well. This boy remembered nothing of his parents, for he had been brought when quite young to be reared by the old woman known as Mombi, whose reputation, I am sorry to say, was none of the best. For the Gillikin people had reason to suspect her of indulging in magical arts, and therefore hesitated to associate with her.
