  • My Autobiography

    Charles Chaplin

    Paperback (Fireside, Feb. 15, 1978)
A silent comedy star whose legendary slapstick routines are recognisable to this day, Charles 'Charlie' Chaplin's My Autobiography is an incomparably vivid account of the life of one of the greatest filmmakers and comedians, with an introduction by David Robinson As a child, Charlie Chaplin was awed and inspired by the sight of glamorous vaudeville stars passing his home, and from then on he never lost his ambition to become an actor. Chaplin's film career as the Little Tramp adored by the whole world is the stuff of legend, but this frank autobiography shows another side. Born into a theatrical family, Chaplin's father died of drink while his mother, unable to bear the poverty, suffered from bouts of insanity. From a childhood of grinding poverty in the south London slums, Chaplin found an escape in his early debut on the music hall stage, followed by his lucky break in America, the founding of United Artists with D.W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks, the struggle to maintain artistic control over his work, the string of failed marriages, and his eventual exile from Hollywood after personal scandals and persecution for his left-wing politics during the McCarthy Era. Sir Charles 'Charlie' Chaplin (1895-1976) was born in Walworth, London. Best known for his work in silent film, his most famous role was The Little Tramp, a universally recognisable and iconic character who appeared in films such as The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925) and City Lights (1931). His other films include Modern Times (1936), a commentary on the Great Depression, and The Great Dictator (1940), a satirical attack on Hitler and the Nazis.
  • Muffin: My Autobiography

    Jim Adduci

    eBook
Muffin-I'm going to tell you in my own words about my life. The good and the bad. The cuts, the scrapes, and the bits. The only thing that I am leaving out is the sex; it's none of your business, and it's not suitable for the children. Jim-It is mostly an enjoyable story of a dog's life through his eyes with some tragedy; such as life is. What sets this book apart is: it is written from a dog's point of view. It shows in many ways the bond of a dog to a man; and the bond of a man to a dog. It's called love and respect. The many pictures will help you form a connection with Muffin. And they are not just "cute" pictures. They show him interacting with the raccoon, the ducks, the rocks on the beach, people; and growing old.And how my mistakes in life affected him. I believe the ending is both sad and funny; and uplifting. He was such a special dog that his story deserved to be told.

  • Autobiography: My Story

    Kelly Brook

    (Sidgwick & Jackson, Dec. 1, 2014)
From a council house in Kent to her first home in the Hollywood hills, from being told she was too big to model to becoming an inspiration for curvy girls everywhere, Kelly's life has taken many unexpected turns. She dreamed of escaping her chaotic childhood by becoming an actress—she never imagined she'd become a hugely popular pin-up girl who would pose in Playboy and date some of the most attractive men in the world, or that her tempestuous relationships with the likes of Jason Statham and Billy Zane would be played out in the merciless glare of the media. Now, in her compelling autobiography, Kelly writes with total honesty about the men she has loved and the tragic loss and heartache she has overcome, as well as introducing readers to her world—that of a model, actress, presenter, and business woman. This is the real Kelly. The girl behind the gloss. A funny, feisty woman who lives life on her own terms.
  • Yeager: An Autobiography

    Yeager

Paperback (Arrow Book, March 15, 1987)
General Chuck Yeager, the greatest test pilot of them all -- the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound. The World War II flying ace who shot down a Messerschmitt jet with a prop-driven P-51 Mustang. The hero who defined a certain quality that all hotshot fly-boys of the postwar era aimed to achieve: the right stuff. Now Chuck Yeager tells his whole incredible life story with the same "wide-open, full throttle" approach that has marked his astonishing career. What it was really like engaging in do-or-die dogfights over Nazi Europe. How after being shot over occupied France, Yeager somehow managed to escape. The amazing behind-the-scenes story of smashing the sound barrier despite cracked ribs from a riding accident days before. The entire story is here, in Yeager's own words, and in wonderful insights from his wife and those friends and colleagues who have known him best. It is the personal and public story of a man who settled for nothing less than excellence, a one-of-a-kind portrait of a true American hero.
