  • Fairies: Paintings by Michael Hague Coloring Book

    Pomegranate, Michael Hague

    Paperback (Pomegranate, Jan. 15, 2010)
From the Introduction:Do you believe in fairies? Perhaps you've seen one in the garden, among the flowers, just as the sun was going down. Michael Hague is an American illustrator who loves to paint these wee folk as they go about their nightly romps and horseplay. He grew up in Los Angeles, and from an early age was drawn to the fantastic adventures found in the comics, particularly Prince Valiant, but he was also influenced by many different artistic styles, including those of Japanese printmakers Hiroshige and Hokusai, Arthur Rackham, and Disney Studios. After finishing art school, he worked for greeting card companies for a while, but his real joy is illustrating books. You'll find twenty-two of Michael Hague's illustrations in this coloring book. They are shown as small reproductions on the inside front and back covers. When you color in these pictures, you might want to copy his colors, or you might decide to use your own. The last page of this book is blank so that you can draw and color your own picture. Think about what fairies might like to do in your backyard or neighborhood, and try to show that in your picture.Selection is images adapted from Michael Hague's illustrations in his Book of Fairies (HarperCollins, 2000) and Book of Fairy Poetry (HarperCollins, 2004) and Kathleen Hague's Good Night, Fairies (Chronicle Books, 2002). • Tibetan Symbols and Designs Coloring Book

    Pomegranate

    Paperback (Pomegranate, Jan. 15, 2010)
From the introduction:We give all sorts of things an extra layer of meaning, a symbolic meaning. A white bird in a painting is a dove, but it's also a symbol of peace. Since peace is an idea, it can t be drawn directly, so artists have found a way to convey that idea with a picture of a white bird. In Tibet, carpets and other fabrics are decorated with monsters, birds, flowers, and designs. The designs don t have a symbolic meaning, but the dragons and cranes and lotus blossoms each carry a special meaning, like the dove. We've chosen twenty-two Tibetan objects from the collection of the Newark Museum, each of them covered with pictures, for you to color. They are shown as small reproductions on the inside front and back covers. The captions on the pages that follow tell you something about Tibetan symbolism. The last page of this book is blank so that you can draw and color your own picture. Fill it with snow lions, lotus flowers, and your own symbolic creatures and plants.Pomegranate's Tibetan Symbols and Designs coloring book features drawings based on 22 Tibetan objects. Each illustration is reproduced in a small, color version of the original artwork and as a full-page black line drawing. Coloring pages are blank on the back so they can be cut out and displayed.

  • Designs by Frank Lloyd Wright Coloring Book

    Pomegranate

    Paperback (Pomegranate, May 31, 2009)
Pomegranate's Frank Lloyd Wright: Designs coloring book features drawings based on 22 original designs by the renowned American architect. Coloring pages are blank on the back so they can be cut out and displayed. One forty-eight page 8 1/2 x 11 in. book with twenty-two images to color. Each illustration is reproduced in a small, color version of the original artwork and as a full-page black line drawing. The architect and designer Frank Lloyd Wright (American, 1867-1959) single-handedly changed how Americans thought about houses, insisting on more light, less clutter, freer movement from room to room, and the honesty of good materials displaying their natural color and texture. Driven by the belief that the places people live and the things they use every day should reflect the surrounding landscape--he called this an 'organic' way of creating new objects--Wright designed many of the furnishings for his famous houses, churches, and commercial buildings. He gave special attention to windows and loved to decorate them with art glass designs. You'll find twenty-two designs in this coloring book, adapted from magazine covers, carpets, tiles, windows, and other Wright projects. They are shown as small pictures inside the front and back covers. You'll notice that the artist used many straight lines to make patterns, which sometimes look like familiar things--a bowl of fruit, flags, plants and flowers. When you color in a picture, you might want to try to make something close to the original, or you might decide to use colors that are quite different. The last page of this book is blank so that you can draw and color your own picture. Use a ruler and a compass and see if you can make a picture that looks like something Frank Lloyd Wright might have done.

  • Impressionists on the Water Coloring Book

Pomegranate Communications Inc., Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

    Paperback (Pomegranate, Jan. 1, 2013)
Soft cover book with staple binding.48 pages with 16 images to colorSize: 8½ x 11 in.Coloring pages are blank on the back so they can be cut out and displayed.Almost 150 years ago, a group of French painters created a shocking new style. Instead of painting the usual illustrations of historical events or grand portraits of kings and queens, they set out to capture moments from everyday life. Their paintings often showed shopkeepers, neighbors, friends, and family members going about their daily routines, or just scenes of simple natural beauty such as a glimmering river or a sunset over the sea. Also, these artists didn t try to produce an exact copy of what they saw. Instead, they tried to record with bold colors and visible brushstrokes the feeling of a scene their impression of it (which is how they came to be called Impressionists ).This coloring book features sixteen paintings by famous Impressionist artists. All of the paintings include bodies of water: boats skimming along sun-dappled rivers, houses by the sea, a beautiful lily pond (painted by Claude Monet in his own backyard!). The original paintings are shown as small pictures on the inside front and back covers. When you color in these pictures, you can either try to copy the original colors and style or come up with your own. We ve also included some blank pages, so you can create your own works of art. You might try going outside, as the Impressionists did, and coloring the light, shadows, and reflections you see!
