Idzi soon learns the true value of life when his friend is killed by Marn over a moment of clumsiness. There’s a way to settle the score, but it involves a vial of enchanted oil and the mysterious Lady Senka, whose motives are very much in doubt. It’s a dirty job, but he’s the only one who can do it.
  • Dessi's Romance

    Goldie Alexander, Upside Creative

language (CPM Publications, Nov. 12, 2013)
Dessi's Romance' is a compelling read, rich with humour and the ups and downs of being a teenager. Anyone can relate to the trials and tribulations of each character in this gripping read.Dessi and Emma are best friends like their mothers before them and can’t imagine anything or anyone ever coming between them. They’ve just graduated from high school and are looking forward to Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast with a group of mates while waiting to find out if they’ve been accepted into their chosen university courses. When Dessi is injured in a traffic accident and must stay home to recuperate, Emma asks her new boyfriend and her best friend to look after each other while she’s away. What Emma couldn’t have foreseen was the instant attraction between Dessi and the older, darkly exotic Middle Eastern Abdul. Dessi’s romance threatens to destroy a friendship that promised to last a lifetime. To complicate matters, Abdul’s family is far from welcoming of his Australian girlfriend.Virginia Lowe, acclaimed reviewer of young adult novels adds the following:‘What is the best way to punish a so-called “close friend”?’Emma and Dessi have been best friends forever, as have their mothers. Nothing comes between them until ‘schoolies week’ when ‘love’ hits Dessi for the first time – then disaster! All the problems and worries of the end of Year 12 are here: jobs (Emma works in ‘the supermarket-from-hell’), results, tertiary applications and ‘schoolies week’ at Surfers. But alas, poor Dessi has also just acquired a badly broken ankle. This is a teen romance told in two alternating voices. Emma is the artistic one, and she’s sure her folio from Year 12 Art will get her into a course she’ll love – or she hopes so. She spends quite a bit of time throughout the story sketching her environs, or thinking how she could mix a particular colour she encounters (especially, it must be said, among her friends’ faces, who are going right over the top with alcohol and drugs, in celebrating schoolies week.)Dessi is the literary one. She writes flawless poetry. This is one of the strengths of the book – unlike many stories in which a young person is a poet of some renown, but the poetry is very weak – here the short simple free verse poems are a delight. Love is a leach, a bloodsucking vampirewhose sole aim is to turn you into a babbling idiotwith sightless eyes, deaf ears, and helpless limbs. The story is a powerful picture of people at the end of their school years and the beginning of their lives in romance, work and tertiary study. It is gripping reading, as the relationships get more and more complicated, and we yearn for their resolution.

  • Sierra Cloud: A True Story About a Horse with Courage

Susan Byrne, Susan Byrne M.A. with Joan Stockbridge

    Paperback (R&R Publications, March 15, 2003)
The tale of Sierra Cloud: A True Story about a Horse with Courage is about a one-year old filly (a young female horse) who is sexually assaulted by a stallion that gets loose one night. When Sierra Cloud returns home, she experiences many of the feelings that human child victims of sexual abuse experience. Told from Sierra Cloud's point of view, the story allows children to identify with the horse and project their feelings onto the animal. When Sierra Cloud is finally able to tell someone she trusts about the assault, her healing and recovery begin. Children learn that speaking out is a way to stop the abuse, and the story emphasizes the courage it takes for any victim to tell about abuse. This book has been read and edited by Master's and Ph.D. level mental health clinicians as well as by lay persons who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. While designed for children ages 5-12 for use in therapeutic settings, Sierra Cloud may provide insight and healing to all ages. A writing and drawing journal to accompany the book is available through the store at www.eagala.org.

  • The Chat: Understanding Puberty, Pornography, Sex & Marriage

    Joel Chelliah

    Hardcover (M. Publications, May 20, 2019)
Joel and Sharon are the parents of three young boys Levi, Noa and Micah. The idea for the book, “The Chat,” came after an awkward conversation with his eldest son who was only seven years old at the time. Joel searched for a Christian resource to help answer his son’s questions about sex but came up short, so he decided to write his own. After purchasing every parent manual he could possibly get his hands on for research, he put together the book to help father’s walk this journey with their sons.“I believe that every parent must be the first voice their child hears on this very important topic. As parents, it is our priority to lay a Christian foundation for our children to build on.”The Chat is an unapologetic Bible based, children’s book written specifically for 7-10 year old boys to read with their fathers. The whole experience is interactive and will help strengthen the bonds between parent and child. It also opens the door to future conversations. It is a children’s book that has been written to help fathers have the all important ‘sex chat’ with their sons. It is a brilliant Christian resource that acts as a conversation starter. The book is split into two sections; the first portion helping fathers to prepare themselves for the conversation, while section 2 (dedicated for both fathers and sons) is brilliantly illustrated to engage young boys. The Chat discusses the pertinent issues of sex, puberty, pornography and gender.
