Spotted Salamander
Robert M. McClung
(William Morrow and Company, Jan. 1, 1970)
This book manages to be both entertaining and thoroughly educational. It contains an excellent, concise lesson on a spotted salamander's life cycle, habitat, preferred foods, fellow forest dwellers, etc. written in an easy to understand fashion. The illustrations are both accurate and cute, making it easy for children to bond with and recognize their new forest friends. Because amphibians represent such an important part of a wetland ecosystem, it is nice to find a book that introduces them to children in a way that they will appreciate their beauty and importance.
