  • Cartier Sails the St. Lawrence

    Esther Averill, Feodor Rojankovsky

Library Binding (Harpercollins Juvenile Books, June 15, 1956)
FOREWARD As far as we know, the events and the conversations in this story are true. They are taken from the logbooks of Jaques Cartier and from other historical documents of his time. By Logbooks we mean the original narratives which were written from Cartier's own records of his voyages. It is believed that parts of the original narratives were written by Cartier, and other parts by a person, unknown to us today, who based his text on Cartiers logbooks. To simplify matters, these narratives are referred to in our story as the logbooks of Cartier. Like real detectives, modern historians have searched the European libraries, the town records, and the old secret papers of the Kings for scraps of information which have contributed greatly to our understanding of these voyages.

  • The Over in the Meadow

    John Langstaff, Feodor Rojankovsky

Library Binding (Perfection Learning, April 18, 1973)
"Over in the meadow in the sands in the sun ..." begins John Langstaff's endearing version of an old counting song for children, a favorite for many generations. But never has it been presented in such gay and happy form. Feodor Rojankovsky's pictures are filled with the beauty of meadow life from morning till the end of day, and the amusing verses and simple melody will give pleasure to children and grownups whenever they gather to sing. "Over in the Meadow" is the creation of two very gifted artists, whose previous book, "Frog Went A-Courtin'," was awarded the Caldecott Medal.
